Local Chef Appears in MasterChef

Dan Gvalda Oyster Demo 2008

A local Falmouth Chef has been selected to appear in this year’s MasterChef the Professionals.

Dan Gvalda, Senior Sous Chef at The Flying Fish Restaurant, will be showcasing his culinary expertise in the ever popular series starting this week on BBC2. This years’ series sees Michel Roux Jnr and MasterChef veteran Gregg Wallace hunt for the young chef of the year.

Dan said: “Throughout my chef profession I’ve always dreamt of cooking for Michelle Roux Jnr and now that dream has come true! Being selected to appear on MasterChef the Professionals has been a highlight of my career to date and an experience not to be forgotten.”

Dan has worked at The Flying Fish Restaurant as Sous Chef for the past year. His chef training began at 2 Rosette level and he’s no stranger to master chefs after previously working closely with Master Chef Kalvin Clarke.

The Flying Fish Restaurant, situated on the beautiful Falmouth coast, reflects the very best of Cornish cuisine and style. Dan and the Flying Fish team create fresh and exciting dishes based on what’s landed on the door step that morning; fresh crab and mussels from the Cornish seas or wild garlic and lavender from the local forager.

The AA Rosette restaurant was selected to feature in the renowned Harden’s UK Restaurants 2009 Guide and also won Restaurant of the Year Bronze Award at the Cornwall Tourism Awards.

Dan will also be demonstrating his culinary skills at the Falmouth Oyster Festival on Friday 16th October at 2pm. The festival, sponsored by St Michael’s Hotel and Spa, will take place from 15th to 18th October 2009 and will be officially opened by MasterChef 2009 winner Mat Follas.

Follow Dan’s progress on MasterChef the Professionals Mondays at 8.30pm on BBC2.
